First Night in San Fran

Got to Aaron's house in an area called Lower Haight, dropped off my bags, then changed clothes and headed over to Kelly's house for a Sunday night dinner party.

I should mention that when Aaron accompanied me to go find a parking spot near his house right after I arrived, he took me to a quaint little park just two minutes from his door. Why is this worth mentioning? This was the park in which the opening sequence to "Full House" was filmed. If you were born between 1980 and 1990, you can not tell me that is not cool.

(When you're lost out there and you're all alone, life is waiting to carry you home...)

Before heading to Kelly's place, we made sure that each of us (Aaron, Jeff, Ben, Shiv, who works with Aaron at Google, and myself) had a bottle of wine to bring as a gift.

(No one came to Kelly's dinner party empty handed.)

Kelly's dinner party was great. 17 people, spaghetti and meatballs with homemade tomato sauce, fresh baked garlic bread, and several bottles of wine. So what if the garlic bread caught fire in the oven and set off the fire alarm? It didn't stop us from finishing several pounds of pasta, plenty of ground beef, and a healthy amount of vino.

Kelly lives in a lovely two-bedroom apartment on the top floor of a charming building in a neighborhood called Russian Hill, and she has access to her building's roof deck, which is just elevated enough to offer a clear view over the surrounding buildings. We got to her place a bit early and went up there to check out the sunset and have our first glass of wine.

After that, we returned to her apartment, and continued to decompress as more people began to show up. It was a good mix of Kelly's girlfriends from home (she is a Marin County native), Google employees (Kelly and Aaron are a Google power-couple, in case I failed to mention that earlier), and us Penn AEPi kids. After dinner, we stayed for Entourage and then headed back to Aaron's to hit the hay.

Tomorrow, while Aaron is at work in Mountainview, Ben, Jeff and I are going to run across the Golden Gate Bridge. It might turn out to be an awesome idea. It might turn out to be a terrible idea. We'll see.
